8. January, 2008.

All Parties of the Hungarian Parliament [Hungarian Socialist Party (MSZP), Hungarian Democratic Forum (MDF) and Young Democrats - Hungarian Civic Party (Fidesz-MPP), Alliance of Free Democrats (SZDSZ), Christian Democratic People’s Party (KDNP)] demonstrated their commitment to the e-Inclusion issue. Peter Márfai (Socialist Party), chairman of the Informatics Subcommittee of the Parliament, called for establishment of a 5 parties committee aiming at the contribution of eInclusion, reducing digital gap and realising digital equal opportunity in Hungary. In parallel with this the Hungarian Democratic Forum and the Young Democrats issued a statement about supporting eInclusion.

On the 5 party’s meeting, held on the 8 January 2008, representatives of the parliamentary parties agreed that rising of living standard through digital equal opportunity is a common interest.

The political parties find important and fully support Inforum’s (www.inforum.org.hu) eInclusion movement, which was launched at the end of 2007 (http://einclusion.hu/e-befogadas-eve-2008-magyarorszag-e-inclusion-year-2008-hungary/).

The representatives of the parties agreed that the 5 parties committee should examine which are the tasks that should be done by the government and which are more solvable by NGOs and enterprises.

The representatives of the parliamentary parties agreed that:

  • Rising of living standard through digital equal opportunity are common interest
  • Halving the rate of digital gap is not only EU’s undertake but national aim because the rate of the digital gap in Hungary is higher than the average of the EU. It is common interest to lower it.
  • They fully support Inforum’s and all NGO’s eInclusion movement. NGO’s and government’s activities should be free from tension in this field.
  • It is necessary to establish a civil-governmental-entrepreneurial-political forum in order to realise the actions of eInclusion under social control and coordination.
  • It is necessary to draw distinction between the tasks that should be done by the government and that are more doable by NGOs and enterprises. Furthermore it is necessary to work out the governmental support for the activities of NGOs.
  • They aim to provide an overview on how the offices of the Government involve the issue of eInclusion in their activity
  • They aim to provide an overview on how the NGOs and enterprises involve the issue of eInclusion in their activity
  • It is necessary to find the possibility to involve the eInclusion issue to the New Hungary Development Plan
  • It is needed to establish a temporary parliamentary committee which will support and coordinate the actions of the e-Inclusion movement, and deliver the “i2010” which is a comprehensive strategy for modernising and deploying all EU policy instruments to encourage the development of the digital economy
  • They initiate to dedicate the year 2008 to the eInclusion in Hungary as in the EU.
  • They propose that the Hungarian Parliament should adopt a resolution including the issues mentioned above

The representatives of the 5 parties declare that – by co-operating with Inforum – they fully support the rising of living standard in Hungary through the instruments of digital culture and information society. Following the i2010 strategy they encourage the development of the digital economy and the society.

The parliamentary parties and Inforum are looking forward to welcome those who would like to join to the movement at the http://einclusion.hu website.
