Press report on Hungarian e-Inclusion campaign

On 28 November, 2007 Inforum with support of other associations and firms announced in the frame of a meeting of the Economy and Informatics Committee of the Hungarian Parliament that they are joining EU’s initiation:

e-Inclusion campaign “e-Inclusion, be part of it!” and launching ‘e-Inclusion Year 2008 in Hungary’.

Gabor Dombi, secretary general of Inforum stated that the aim of the campaign is to urge Hungarian society to promote citizens’ knowledge of Information and Communication Technologies in order to raise their quality of life. The reason is that 60% of the Hungarian population is digitally illiterate. Three official calls have been announced in the European Union since 2006 that are stated that reducing digital gap is obligatory in EU countries. In spite of this there is no overall governmental eInclusion conception in Hungary. Only civil organisations published eInclusion report in 2007.

Inforum drafted questions towards the Parliament, political parties and the Members of the Hungarian Government and regretted that there is lack of communication between civil organisations and governmental bodies.

Peter Marfai (MSZP), president of ITC Committee of Hungarian Parliament welcomes the eInclusion civil movement. He announced that the information in eInclusion issue collected by the civil organisations will be delivered to each Members of the Pairlament together with the minutes of the mentioned meeting. Peter Marfai will initiate discussion with the participation of the 5 political parties focusing on the issue of information society in Hungary, EU’s requirements and the state of eInclusoin, in the present parliamentary session. In addition he will suggest governmental bodies and ministries to support Inforum’s initiative and introduce it on the Ministers Conference in the EU in December, 2007.
